CIBSE Ireland
Sustainable Design And Research (SDAR* )Award 2012
Sponsored by John Sisk & Son
Organised by DIT and Supported by bsnews.

The intention with this award is to encourage innovation and evidence based research and evaluation in engineering of the built environment. It is different to other Best Project competitions in that it is intended to encourage applied research, disseminate knowledge gained from this research and raise the level and quality of innovation in projects. Entries must critically evaluate what they are doing and examine mistakes as well as successes in a transparent way analysing data gathered on innovative projects. In this way the profession builds capacity to innovate successfully. The professional industry moves from ideologically driven projects offering poor value to evidence based innovations that add to value for the client and enhance the stature of the profession.

Abstracts of interesting or innovative projects in which there is data, analysis and evidence of success or failure are likely to be short listed. The intention is not to select successful projects but successful research that informs our engineering peers.

One page abstracts are invited before October 31st 2012.

From these abstracts a short list will be selected by peer review and those short listed will be invited to prepare final papers by January 10th 2012.

Four papers were short listed in 2011 and three presented at the final in March 2011 in DIT. The UCC Western Gateway Building paper by Keohane and Leonard of PM Group emerged as the winner and is available to view in the SDAR* Journal.

This years final will take place in DIT in late March 2012 in DIT, Kevin Street.
